Ready, set, vote – Good in the Hood is back

August 26, 2025

Z Energy (Z)’s Good in the Hood is back for 2025!

Z’s flagship community programme is set to donate a total of $1 million to community groups who do incredible mahi everyday across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Good in the Hood’s Community Ambassador Dave Letele says he feels proud to be backing the initiative once again and having been a previous recipient – through his not-for-profit group BBM (Buttabean Motivation) – he knows exactly how much it means to those involved. Now he gets great pleasure in knowing that other organisations are getting a boost from it too.

“I love meeting the groups and seeing all this amazing mahi that’s going on around the country,” says Dave. “New Zealand is being held together by so many of these people; you don’t even realise how much until you see it firsthand. They fill so many gaps, right through the country and for every demographic.”

With every Z service station selecting four non-profit organisations or community groups from their neighbourhood to participate in Good in the Hood, it’s a chance for Z’s customers to get to know more about what they do.

“When you go into the Z station you can read about all these cool charities and the work that’s being done, and that’s really uplifting,” Dave explains. “It gives them some limelight and a chance to promote themselves."

Every Z service station will give away $5,000 in total, split between the four non-profit organisations and community groups they have selected. From 26 August to 22 September, Z customers can get involved and determine how that $5,000 is split by using their tokens to vote for the non-profit organisations and community groups of their choice.

“Every year, Good in the Hood gets better and better,” says Dave. “We just want these groups to get much-needed funds and grow their profile so they can continue the good mahi.”

How to vote

  • Get a token with every purchase at a participating Z station.
  • Pick your favourite non-profit organisation or community group and place your token in their token box.
  • Repeat with every purchase you make at Z until voting closes!

How Good in the Hood works

  • Each Z service station will give away $5,000 in total, split between four non-profit organisations or community groups who are within that Z service station’s local area and have applied (and been selected by Z) to be part of the Good in the Hood promotion. The percentage of the $5,000 that each group receives will be determined by customer vote.
  • Each Z service station will give away an additional $1,000 to support neighbourhood events, projects and programmes. The recipient(s) of this funding will be determined by each Z service station.
