Z Rewards terms and conditions
These Terms relate to the Z Rewards loyalty programme that Z Energy Limited and its subsidiaries offer to a Z Rewards Member (you). We recommend you read these Terms fully. There are some specific terms we want to make you aware of:
- Your Points will expire if you do not get or use Points for a period of 12 months (see clause 8 for more details).
- We and our Z Rewards Partners will send you emails and other communications. You can change your communication preferences at any time (see clause 18 for more details).
- We may change, suspend or terminate these Terms or any aspect of the Z Rewards programme at any time, without giving you notice (see clause 21 for more details).
- In some circumstances, we may terminate your Account and/or participation in Z Rewards (see clause 23 for more details).
- We limit our liability to you in respect of any claim you might have in connection with Z Rewards (see clause 24 for more details).
- The Cardboard Card will only give you access to the Every day CPL Discount. You cannot use your Cardboard Card to get Points, use Rewards, or access Bonus Discounts or Join Offer Rewards.
1. Background
1.1. Z Energy Limited and its subsidiaries (Z, us, we or our) operate a customer loyalty programme known as “Z Rewards”.
1.2. By joining Z Rewards, you agree to be bound by these Terms as they may be updated from time to time.
1.3. Capitalised words used in these Terms have the meaning given to them in clause 26.
2. Joining and accessing Z Rewards
2.1. To join Z Rewards, you must:
(a) be over the age of 16;
(b) be an individual that currently resides in New Zealand; and
(c) have installed on a device and be registered and signed into, the App (Account).
2.2. You can access and participate in Z Rewards by using your Digital Card or App associated with your Account. You may need to update your App from time to time to continue to access it. You must not share your Digital Card, Account numbers or login details with anyone else.
2.3. You acknowledge and agree that by having an Account, you become a Z Rewards Member and must comply with the Z App terms and conditions, available on our Website.
3. General
3.1. The Z Rewards loyalty programme does not apply to purchases made using a Z Business fuel card.
3.2. A Sharetank administrator may get Points when they purchase Sharetank litres through the App. You will not get Points when Sharetank litres are redeemed, nor when reward or bonus Sharetank litres are directly credited to your Account.
3.3. The Z Rewards Fuel Discount does not apply to purchases of Fuel made using Sharetank, the Z Business fuel card or any other fuel cards or vouchers outside the Z Rewards loyalty programme.
4. Z Rewards Join Offer
4.1. If you join Z Rewards by downloading the App and signing in with a valid email, you will receive the following rewards (together the “Join Offer Rewards”):
(a) The “Join Offer Vouchers”:
(i) three electronic vouchers for a 20 cents per litre discount on petrol or diesel for one transaction of up to 100 litres; and
(ii) one free Z Barista Made Drink voucher which can be redeemed at any participating Z Retailer; and
(iii) 300 bonus Points (the Join Offer Points).
4.2. The Join Offer Vouchers will expire 180 days from the date of issue. You can redeem your Join Offer Vouchers in accordance with clause 12. You will not earn Points for redeeming the Z Barista Made Drink voucher.
4.3. The Join Offer Points will expire in accordance with clause 8.1.
4.4. For the avoidance of doubt, you will only get the Join Offer Rewards if you participate in Z Rewards via the App.
5. Getting Points
5.1. Points are what you may get when you scan your Digital Card at the time you purchase, or purchase through your Account (including via your physical EV charge tag):
(a) Fuel at any Z Service Station (including purchases made through Sharetank);
(b) Electric vehicle charging at an EV Charging Station; or
(c) convenience store products (except for Excluded Products) at any Z Retailer,
(each, a Qualifying Purchase).
5.2. If you scan your Digital Card when you make a Qualifying Purchase or make a Qualifying Purchase through your Account, you may, subject to paragraphs 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5, get Points at the following rate:
(a) 1 Point for every $1 you spend on Fuel at any Z Service Station; and
(b) 2 Points for every $1 you spend on:
(i) convenience store products (except for Excluded Products) at any Z Retailer; and/or
(ii) electric vehicle charging at an EV Charging Station.
5.3. The Points you collect on Qualifying Purchases will be rounded up or down to the nearest whole number. For example, if you purchase $50.51 worth of Fuel, you will get 51 Points; if you purchase $50.49 worth of Fuel, you will get 50 Points.
5.4. IMPORTANT! Where a refund is processed for a Qualifying Purchase that earned points, variations in rounding between the original purchase amount and the final purchase value may result in you getting one less point than the advertised rate in clause 5.2. If you think that you have not received the correct amount of points, please contact us with the relevant transaction information and we will add a point to your account if we determine that this has occurred. e.g. Initial Qualifying Purchase of $40.32 earns 40 points. A refund to the value of $5.60 is processed resulting in 6 points being deducted from the customer Z Rewards account. The net Qualifying Purchase is $34.72 (35 points), yet you have earned 34 points (40-6=34) due to the variations in rounding during the processing of the transactions.
5.5. You won’t get Points:
(a) on the value of a Fuel purchase or any other purchase made using your Cardboard Card;
(b) on the value of a Fuel purchase made using Z Business;
(c) on the value of a Qualifying Purchase made using a Reward; or
(d) When you redeem Sharetank litres.
5.6. We may, at any time and in our sole discretion, change the rate that you can get Points on any Qualifying Purchase. You should refer to our Website or check with a Z staff member for an up-to-date list of Qualifying Purchases and the level of spend required per Point.
5.7. Your Points cannot be exchanged for cash or gift card or sold or transferred to another person.
6. Bonus Points
6.1. You may also get additional Points (Bonus Points) where:
(a) you refer Z Rewards to a person who is not already a Z Rewards Member using your referral link on the App, and that person becomes a Z Rewards Member (you can receive Bonus Points for up to a maximum of three successful referrals);
(b) you purchase your fifth consecutive Barista Made Drink using your Digital Card and/or via your Account; and/or
(c) we or our Z Rewards Partners run, and you participate in, an offer, promotion or competition to get Bonus Points on a Qualifying Purchase during a limited period of time (this includes a Z Rewards Bonus Day offer). These offers, promotions or competitions might be available to the public, or be an exclusive personalised offer based on your individual profile and available only to you only on your Account. The recipients of such offers, promotions or competitions and the quantity of those Bonus Points will both be determined by us or our Z Rewards Partners at our sole discretion.
6.2. These Terms will apply to any Bonus Points, in addition to any specific terms and conditions applying to such Bonus Points. In the event of any inconsistency, the specific terms and conditions of the Bonus Points shall apply.
7. Checking your Points
7.1. Points you get for Qualifying Purchases in accordance with these Terms may take up to 72 hours to appear in your Account. If it has been over 72 hours and you think that Points from your Qualifying Purchase have not been added to your Account, please contact us in accordance with clause 16.3.
8. Points expiry
8.1. Your Points will expire if you are not an active Z Rewards Member for a continuous 12-month period. This means, all of your Points (excluding any Rewards) will expire and be removed from your Account if you do not get or use Points within a continuous 12-month period.
9. Using your Points to get rewarded
9.1. To use your Points to get a Reward, you must have the required number of Points in your Account for that Reward Milestone. Once your Points reach an applicable Reward Milestone, you can choose to use your Points on that Reward Milestone or keep your Points to use on another Reward Milestone at a later date.
9.2. The Reward Milestones are:
(a) For 500 Points you can choose to use your Points to receive a voucher for any one of the following at a Z Retailer:
(i) One Barista Made Drink;
(ii) One Z pie;
(iii) One Z sausage roll; or
(iv) One 500ml V Energy drink can of any flavour,
(each, a Treat).
9.3. For the avoidance of doubt, you cannot get a Reward by using your Cardboard Card because you do not get Points or Bonus Points on purchases made using your Cardboard Card.
9.4. We may, at any time and in our sole discretion, change any or all of the Rewards and/or the Reward Milestones. You should refer to the App or our Website for an up-to-date list of Rewards and the level of spend required for a Reward Milestone.
10. Getting your Reward
10.1. If you have achieved the required Points for a Reward Milestone and wish to exchange your Points for that Reward Milestone, you must follow the instructions set out in the App.
10.2. Upon selecting your Reward in accordance with the instructions set out in the App:
(a) the applicable number of Points for the selected Reward Milestone will be permanently removed from your Account; and
(b) if your Reward is a Treat your Treat will show in your Account within 72 hours; and
(c) you cannot change or cancel your selected Reward.
10.3. A Reward cannot be exchanged for cash or gift card or sold or transferred to another person.
11. Using your Treat or Join Offer Voucher
11.1. To use your Treat or Join Offer Voucher you can either:
(a) scan your Digital Card in-store and let a staff member know you would like to use your Treat or Join Offer Voucher prior to the conclusion of your transaction; and/or
(b) if your selected Treat is a Barista Made Drink or a Z pie or Z sausage roll, you can use your voucher when you pre-order your Barista Made Drink or Z pie or Z sausage roll in the App and select the voucher at the time of pre-order.
11.2. Once you have used your Treat or Join Offer Voucher that Treat or Join Offer Voucher will be permanently removed from your Account.
11.3. Your Treat or Join Offer Voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other form of discount, promotion or voucher outside the Z Rewards loyalty programme, unless we specify otherwise.
11.4. Your Treat or Join Offer Voucher cannot be sold, refunded, transferred or exchanged for cash.
12. Additional Treat terms
12.1. When you use your Treat, you will not get Points on the value of that Treat.
12.2. We do not guarantee that any of the Treats you select or wish to use will be available at any time. Each Treat is subject to availability at a Z Retailer.
13. Expiry of Rewards
13.1. You must use your Reward within the time stated, otherwise it will expire. Each Treat or Join Offer Voucher will expire 12 months after the date the Treat or Join Offer Voucher was converted and issued into your Account.
14. Z Rewards Fuel Discount
14.1. We may offer you:
(a) an “Every day CPL Discount” - a discount of 6 cents per litre off the advertised pump price of Fuel at a Z Service Station, up to a maximum fill of 100 litres; and/or
(b) a “Bonus Discount” – an extra cents per litre discount off the advertised pump price of Fuel at a Z Service Station up to a maximum fill of 100 litres, available from time to time, to select persons at a rate and for a period determined by us.
14.2. On any given day, your “Z Rewards Fuel Discount” is either one of the Every day CPL Discount or the Bonus Discount, whichever is higher.
15. Using your Z Rewards Fuel Discount
15.1. There is no minimum spend required for you to use your Z Rewards Fuel Discount.
15.2. To use your Z Rewards Fuel Discount, you need to:
(a) present and scan your Digital Card in store or at the pay at pump terminal (if available) at a Z Service Station, prior to the conclusion of your transaction; or
(b) pay for Fuel at a Z Service Station using the App (excluding Sharetank).
15.3. To access the Every day CPL Discount by using your Cardboard Card, you must present and scan the barcode on your Cardboard Card in store or at the pay at pump terminal (id available) at a Z Service Sation, prior to the conclusion of your transaction.
15.4. Your Z Rewards Fuel Discount will automatically be used against your Fuel purchase (up to a maximum of 100 litres).
15.5. The following rounding rules apply to your Z Rewards Fuel Discount:
(a) the Z Rewards Fuel Discount is applied to the lowest full litre of Fuel delivered to you at the pump (for example: if you fill 55.9 litres, the Z Rewards Fuel Discount is applied to 55 litres of your transaction); and
(b) if you purchase multiple Fuel grades or multiple separate deliveries of the same Fuel grade (each a Delivery) in a single transaction, the amount of Fuel is rounded down per Delivery in accordance with clause 15.5 (a) before the total Z Rewards Fuel Discount for your fill is calculated.
15.6. Unless we specify otherwise, your Z Rewards Fuel Discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other form of discount or promotion outside the Z Rewards loyalty programme. The Z Rewards Fuel Discount does not apply to purchases of Fuel made using Z Business, Sharetank or Fuel Up vouchers.
15.7. Sorry, you can’t:
(a) save your Z Rewards Fuel Discount for a later date or subsequent transaction;
(b) combine your Every day CPL Discount and Bonus Discount in a single transaction; and/or
(c) select whether or not to use your Every day CPL Discount or Bonus Discount (if available to you) on any given day or transaction.
16. Customer queries and disputes
16.1. If you have questions about Z Rewards, please:
(a) Visit our Website;
(b) Contact our call centre by calling the number set out on our Website; or
(c) Ask a Z staff member at a Z Retailer.
16.2. If you have a complaint or dispute relating to Z Rewards (Dispute) you must notify us, subject to clause 16.3, within 5 business days of the Dispute arising, by contacting our call centre, or using the ‘contact us’ page, set out on our Website. Any decision we make in relation to a Dispute that you raise with us will be final and binding.
16.3. If your Dispute relates to missing Points or Rewards, you must notify us by contacting our call centre, or using the ‘contact us’ page, set out on our Website no more than 30 days from the date of your purchase or conversion. You must provide evidence that we reasonably request, including any receipts or invoices.
17. Airpoints
17.1. In addition to Points, you may be eligible to collect Airpoints Dollars™ on purchases of Fuel at a Z Service Station. Please read these terms and conditions carefully. They contain important information (including limitations and restrictions) on how Airpoints interacts with Z Rewards.

18. Communicating with you
18.1. We and our Z Rewards Partners may communicate with you about Z Rewards, other Z brands or our Z Rewards Partners products or services. This includes sending you Z Rewards Bonus Points, personalised offers, promotions, and other additional benefits. We may also ask you for your feedback.
18.2. Unless you have opted out, you agree to us and our Z Rewards Partners communicating with you via various channels (including email, phone, mail, app notifications and by advertising on certain websites and/or social media).
18.3. If you would like to opt out of receiving certain types of marketing and promotional messages that we send you in accordance with these Terms, you can do this by clicking the unsubscribe button in any of the marketing or promotional emails sent to you in accordance with these Terms.
18.4. You can change some of the notifications you receive in the App by going into your App settings and clicking the toggle to stop receiving push notifications.
18.5. Opting out of messages and offers sent in accordance with these Terms, will not opt you out of receiving messages from our Z Rewards Partners where you have signed up to them independently of your Z Rewards Account.
18.6. There are some messages that we must be able to send to you and/or that you cannot opt out of or toggle out of. These include messages relating to your Account such as changes to your Account, important information relating to products and services you have purchased, app maintenance, forgotten passwords and/or updates to our terms and conditions or Privacy Policy.
19. Privacy
19.1. Any Personal Information (as that term is defined in the Privacy Act 2020) we collect about you in connection with Z Rewards, we will collect, hold, and use in accordance with our Privacy Policy (as amended from time to time).
19.2. By joining Z Rewards, you acknowledge that you have read the Privacy Policy, and understand that we will collect, use, store and disclose your Personal Information in accordance with those terms.
20. Intellectual Property
20.1. These Terms do not transfer to you any right, title, or interest in or to any intellectual property in Z Rewards. You must not use for your own purposes, copy, modify, adapt, or otherwise deal with any of our intellectual property.
21. Changes to these Terms
21.1. We may change, modify or suspend these Terms or any part of the Z Rewards loyalty programme at any time, for any reason. The changes will take effect when we publish them on our Website. It’s up to you to check for any changes. Remember, if you don’t agree with these Terms at any point, you can cease to use the App and the services or products you access through the App, request to close your account, and delete the App.
21.2. By continuing to use the App, you’ll be taken to have accepted the latest version of these Terms.
22. Ending your participation in Z Rewards
22.1. If you no longer wish to be a Z Rewards Member, you can cease to use the App and the services or products you access through the App, request to close your account, and delete the App.
22.2. We may retain and use any data about your participation in Z Rewards provided up to the date your participation in Z Rewards ceased. Any Personal Information (as defined in the Privacy Act 2020) will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.
22.3. Please note, when your account closes any unused Z Rewards points and vouchers you have in the App will be forfeit.
23. Our rights
23.1. To the extent permitted by law, we may, without giving you notice:
(a) cancel all or some of your Points or Rewards; and/or
(b) decline to issue you Points or Rewards;
if we reasonably believe you have:
(c) breached these Terms or the App terms and conditions;
(d) acted fraudulently or misused your Account, including in relation to accumulation of Points or Rewards;
(e) behaved in a manner which we reasonably consider is unacceptable while using Z Rewards or other facilities, services or arrangements provided by us or in connection with the Z Rewards programme;
(f) acted in a way that is detrimental to our interests or the Z Rewards loyalty programme;
(g) used, or attempted to use your Digital Card, Account or Rewards on purchases made by any person other than you as the Account holder; or
(h) provided incorrect or misleading information to us in connection with your Account.
23.2. To the extent permitted by law, we may suspend or terminate your Account and/or participation in Z Rewards for any reason.
23.3. We reserve the right to audit your Account and amend, debit and correct your Points or Rewards if we identify any inaccuracy (due to our mistake or otherwise).
24. Limitation of Liability
24.1. Except for any rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986, all warranties or representations of any kind, whether express or implied and whether arising under legislation or otherwise, in relation to the Z Rewards loyalty programme, are expressly excluded to the maximum extent permitted by law.
24.2. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be responsible to you, or liable for, any loss or damage (including direct or indirect loss, or special or consequential loss or damage) arising out of or in connection with:
(a) any delay in issuing you with, or non-issue to you of, any Points or Rewards;
(b) acts, errors or omissions by us in the course of providing you Z Rewards (including as referred to in these Terms);
(c) changes or suspension to, and/or termination of, the Z Rewards loyalty programme, including the ability for you to get Points or Rewards;
(d) termination of your Account in accordance with these Terms or the Z App terms and conditions;
(e) the availability of Rewards;
(f) the accuracy of information supplied to you by third parties or your dealings with third parties;
(g) any unauthorised or fraudulent activity in relation to your Account;
(h) loss of profit, loss of anticipated profit or revenue, or any indirect or consequential loss arising out of or in connection with Z Rewards, howsoever caused; or
(i) delay in or non-replacement of a lost, stolen or damaged Cardboard Card.
24.3. We do not guarantee the provision of a continuous or fault-free service in relation to Z Rewards. Without limitation, we are not responsible or liable for any technical malfunction, communications or network failure, lost, delayed, incomplete or corrupted data, or any other interruption (including as a result of us carrying out updates and improvements) that prevents or affects the operation and/or fulfilment of Z Rewards.
24.4. To the extent our liability cannot be excluded, the total liability of us to you, under or in relation to these Terms is limited to the value of the Points you have accumulated (excluding Points that have expired or have been used on any Z Reward Milestone in accordance with these Terms) in the 12-months prior to the date of the event giving rise to our liability, whether or not the liability is caused by the failure, or negligence, of us or by any third party controlled by us.
25. Applicable law
25.1. These Terms are governed by and will be construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand. We and you each agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand in connection with any claim that may arise in relation to these Terms, your Account and/or the Z Rewards programme.
26. Definitions
26.1. In these Terms, the following terms have the stated meaning, except where the context requires otherwise.
Account has the meaning given to it in clause 2.1(c).
App means the Z Energy mobile application.
Barista Made Drink means any hot or cold beverage of any size (excluding smoothies and frappes) including any alternative milk or flavour shots and made by a Z barista.
EV Charging Station means a participating electric vehicle charging station managed by Z.
Bonus Discount has the meaning given to it in clause 14.1(b).
Bonus Points has the meaning given to it in clause 6.1.
Cardboard Card means the physical cardboard card issued to you in store at a Z Retailer which allows you to access the Every day CPL Discount.
Digital Card means your digital Z Rewards Account card issued to you in your Account on the Z App, specifying your Z Rewards Account number.
Every day Discount has the meaning set out in clause 14.1(a).
Excluded Products means tobacco products, vaping products, electronic payment cards, telephone cards, gift cards, vouchers, donations, lotto products, and trailer hire deposits.
Fuel means all grades of petrol and diesel offered for sale at a Z Service Station.
Milestone means the specific number of Points required to exchange Points for a Reward.
Point means a currency a Z Rewards Member gets in accordance with these Terms and includes Bonus Points.
Privacy Policy means our privacy policy located on our Website (and amended from time to time).
Qualifying Purchase means the meaning given to it in clause 5.1.
Reward means any voucher for a good or service offered to a Z Rewards Member in exchange for a number of Points specified by Z, or otherwise offered by Z to a Z Rewards Member, and includes a Treat and Join Offer Reward.
Terms means these terms and conditions relating to Z Rewards, as amended from time to time.
Treat has the meaning given to it in clause 9.2(a).
Website means z.co.nz and any additional or replacement website that relates to the same subject matter.
Z Retailer means a participating Z branded retail service station that sells convenience store products.
Z Rewards Fuel Discount has the meaning set out in clause 14.2.
Z Rewards Member means a person who has joined the Z Rewards loyalty programme in accordance with clause 2.1.
Z Service Station means a participating Z branded service station (including unmanned stations).
27. In this Terms, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) any word importing the singular includes the plural and vice versa;
(b) the words “include”, “includes”, and “including” are to be construed without limitation;
(c) any word importing a person includes companies, other corporations and any body of persons (whether incorporated or unincorporated);
(d) headings are for convenience only and shall not form part of these Terms;
(e) any reference to any statute or regulation is a reference to that statute or regulation as amended or replaced from time to time;
(f) any reference to dollars or cents is a reference to New Zealand dollars or New Zealand cents; and
(g) any reference to a month is a reference to a calendar month.
